Data management and computation could soon be performed through the manipulation of DNA, after Catalog received $35m in a Hanwha Impact-led round.
Hanwha Impact, a subsidiary of diversified conglomerate Hanwha Group, has led a $35m series B round for Catalog, a US-based developer of DNA data storage technology.
Catalog is working on a new method of storing digital information by using synthetic DNA, a technology which could eventually be used to run computational processes.
The company will use the funding to further develop its proprietary technology and build up a network of partners, collaborators and users of DNA-based computing.
