The stake is reportedly one of more than 2000 minority stakes bought by Western group in the country, according to news provider Financial Times.

Spain-based telecommunications group Telefonica has sold about half of its 10% stake in China Unicom, a China-based telecoms group, for  €1.1bn ($1.4bn).

The stake  was bought in 2005.

News provider Financial Times said overseas companies had taken more than 2000 minority stakes in Chinese companies in the last decade.
