Top 50 Emerging Leaders 2022 (in alphabetical order by CVC unit): Timur Davis, principal, Munich Re Ventures

Timur Davis is a principal at Munich Re Ventures (MRV), the corporate venturing subsidiary of Germany-headquartered reinsurance group Munich Re, where he leads the climate technology and future of mobility investment areas.

MRV managing director Jacqueline LeSage said: “Timur joined MRV over the summer of 2019 to lead our early efforts into the deeptech space and now leads our investing activity in climatetech and the future of transportation where he invests in companies solving some of the biggest challenges facing the world.

“These include strengthening climate resilience, improving sustainability, enabling the energy transition and creating new paradigms for the movement of people, goods and data across all domains of transportation.

“He has brought considerable intellect and a high level of enthusiasm to the team. He leverages his background in science and management consulting to dive deep into a subject and engage in critical discussions around technology and business models.

“He has successfully educated the market on why MRV is interested in these new areas and the role we can play as investors and partners. This has resulted in MRV gaining access to some great deals and him leading our investments in Twelve and Orbit Fab.

“So far, looks like there is no limit to what is ahead for Timur as he furthers his skills not only as an investor but also as a board member and adviser to portfolio companies.”

Davis began his venture capital career at Samsung Ventures, a vehicle for consumer electronics producer Samsung, and financial technology firm Canapi Ventures. Before joining the VC world, he was a consultant at Boston Consulting Group in New York and earned a PhD in applied physics, applied mathematics and materials science from Columbia University.
