Venture capital firm Foundry Group and an undisclosed strategic investor have participated in a $6m series B round of funding into Spanning Cloud Apps, a US-based developer of backup services for Google’s cloud-based applications, according to a regulatory filing.

The company previously raised $3m in series A funding led by Foundry Group in April 2011.

Charlies Wood, chief executive and founder of Spanning, said: “This infusion of capital will allow us to accelerate the buildout of our direct sales team and reseller channel, while extending the product lead we’ve established over our competitors. It also provides us with an important strategic partner.”
