Desti, a US-based travel guide on Apple’s iPad, has added $1m in series A round funding to its $1.5m seed round from previous investors, including Carmel Ventures, SRI International and Horizon Ventures. Desti is another spin out from research group SRI International, following technology company Apple’s purchase of the Siri digital assistant, which Horizon had also backed. Desti’s service is limited to northern California and uses SRI’s artificial intelligence technology, combined with natural language processing, semantic search and a travel-specific knowledge base.
