University College Dublin (UCD) unveiled Ireland-based spinout AquaB on Thursday to commercialise an ozone-based disinfectant spray. Ozone is sometimes used to disinfect the air within industrial and consumer settings however the gas cannot be solvated and contained within water-based aerosols without sharply diminishing its half-life. AquaB’s technology would generate thermodynamically stable nanobubbles of ozone in order to improve the aerosol’s longevity. The technology builds on the founding discoveries of Niall English, a professor at UCD’s School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, and Mohammad Reza Ghaani, a researcher in the same department.
