21Net, a Belgium-based supplier of broadband internet services to railway companies, has raised £6.5m ($10m) from a consortium led by Innovacom, the corporate venturing unit of phone operator France Telecom.

Additional funds were provided by private equity firm BIP Investment Partners as well as other existing shareholders.

Vincent Deltrieu, partner at Innovacom, which manages €400m, said: "We identified connectivity solutions for railway industry as a promising market as there is an increasing demand from passengers and train operators for true communication experiences on board trains."
