JDSU, a Nasdaq-listed networks company, has acquired Arieso, a UK-based provider of location-aware software for mobile carriers backed by chip maker Qualcomm’s corporate venturing unit, for $85m in cash.

In February 2008, Arieso raised £5m ($7.5m) from Qualcomm Ventures and venture capital firms Carbon Trust, Oxford Capital Partners, Top Technology and Add Partners. Founded in 2002, Arieso also raised $2.2m in April 2010, according to news provider Trading Markets.

Miles Kirby, head of Europe at Qualcomm Ventures, by email said: “It was a good return but not 8x.”

A press report by PEHub said it was a 4.7 times return for investors.
