Shiva Loccisano has been appointed CEO of Almacube, the incubator and innovation hub of the University of Bologna. He moves from his position as an executive board member, which he held from July 2022.
Loccisano will work in addition to his role as CEO of BeHold Srl, which manages the Italian university’s spinouts, a post he has held since June 2022.
Alongside his leadership of BeHold, Loccisano worked as a senior project manager at Netval, a networking company that connects universities with each other and the private sector.
Previously, he was head of technology transfer and industrial liaison at Italy’s oldest technical college, Politecnico di Torino, for seven years. In a post announcing his appointment, Almacube highlighted Loccisano’s “strong background” in overseeing innovation in his sector.
Launched in 1999, Almacube is part of Oper.space, which is the University of Bologna’s innovation arm. Since its founding, it has supported over 300 startups, working to develop spinouts from the university and promote their success in the region, which spans Bologna, Ferrara and Modena.
It recently held a Start Up to Dare contest where it encouraged startups to pitch their ideas for industries including agriculture, consumer goods, medical products and transport.
Spinouts Almacube incubated include Cheap Fit, developers of an app which tries to help people avoid sedentary behaviour in the workplace, and Heaple Srl, which provides mental exercises for people suffering from degenerative brain diseases.
