The corporate took part through its Motorola Solutions Venture Capital unit, helping to boost wearable communication device maker Orion's total funding to more than $15m.
US-based group voice communication technology developer Orion Labs secured $9m on Thursday from investors including Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, the corporate venturing arm of communications equipment manufacturer Motorola Solutions.
The round also included Avalon Ventures, the venture capital fund that took part in Orion’s $6.25m series A round in 2014.
Founded in 2013 as OnBeep, Orion Labs produces wearable accessories that enable users to have conversations with other mobile users while keeping their mobile devices in their pockets, allowing them to do other things while speaking.
The latest financing will allow the company to expand into new markets and develop additional products.
Paul Steinberg, Motorola Solutions’ chief technology officer, said: “Consumer wearable devices have the potential to transform the way people communicate.
“Orion’s team, products, and technology are at the forefront of innovation in this exciting space. Our strategic investment highlights Motorola Solutions’ commitment to innovation around smart wearable devices.”
