Lophius Biosciences, a Germany-based developer of medical diagnostic tests, has raised an undisclosed amount from state and corporate-backed funds. VRD, a local family office, WIC, S-Refit, High-Tech Gründerfonds, Bayern Kapital and two business angels provided the money. In July 2011, Lophius raised €1.4m ($2m). The company said it was started after the Hochschulgründerwettbewerb competition for university start-ups in 1999 as a spin-off of the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene and the Clinic and Polyclinic for Internal Medicine I of the University Hospital Regensburg.
