The energy sector's bull market extended into the academic world, with a record number of funding rounds raised last year by energy-related university spinouts. The trend is holding up so far in 2022.

By the end of 2021, our sister publication Global University Venturing had reported 74 rounds raised by university spinouts developing energy-related technologies, up a whopping 80% from the 41 recorded in the previous year. The level of estimated total capital deployed in 2021 stood at $4.19bn, a multi-fold jump from the $707m recorded in 2020.…
