During Georg Schwegler’s seven years as chief executive of Germany-based phone operator Deutsche Telekom’s corporate venturing unit, the group has evolved into an increasingly confident outfit leading rounds and looking for deals at an earlier  stage of development.

Schwegler joined T-Venture in October 2000 and was initially responsible for the INI-Ventures Fund and research and  analysis, before taking over the management of the new T-Com Venture Fund in 2004 and becoming chief executive a year later.

T-Venture uses thematically-oriented funds to correspond to the three strategic business segments of broadband and fixed network, mobile communications and corporate customers of Deutsche Telekom, as well as address cross-divisional topics. Schwegler is a board observer at Voxeo.

Before joining Deutsche Telekom in 1997 – the year T-Venture was founded – and working at its Center for Information and Innovation Management, Schwegler was a management consultant for the phone operator. His qualifications included a PhD in business administration from University of Cologne.
