Bin Yan will become associate vice-president for research and director of the Office of Technology Management in September.

Bin Yan, director of the Office of Technology Transfer at University of Miami, has been appointed associate vice-president for research and director of the Office of Technology Management (OTM) at Penn State.

Yan will join Penn State on September 6, replacing OTM’s interim director Tim Hurley.

During her tenure in Miami, the tech transfer office generated record levels of licensing revenue. She has spent 24 years working in the innovation ecosystem, working also at University of Saskatchewan and University of Florida.

She said: “I am very excited about the opportunity to join OTM and look forward to working together to advance technology commercialisation at Penn State.”

Lora Weiss, senior vice-president for research, added: “We are looking forward to Dr Yan joining us as Penn State’s next associate vice president for research and director of the Office of Technology Management. Dr Yan brings a wealth of experience and expertise across all aspects of technology management.”
