Michael Claes scouted for technologies at the Saudi chemicals company's CVC for more than 25 years.

Michael Claes, a former director of technology at Sabic Ventures, the investment arm of Saudi chemicals maker Sabic, has joined VC firm Antares Ventures as a senior advisor.

Claes joined Sabic Ventures in 2000 as a senior technology manager. He was promoted to director of technology in 2023 and led a team responsible for scouting, assessing and due diligence of technologies.

Claes was a GCV Emerging Leader in corporate venturing in 2025.

In his new role, he will be part of the Antares Ventures’ advisory team. Singapore-headquartered Antares Ventures invests in Asian deep tech startups.

Claes worked at Nanocyl, a maker of carbon nanotubes, for 15 years before joining Sabic Ventures.

He is the latest senior departure from Netherlands-based CVC. Aruna Subramanian, the head of Sabic Ventures for more than a decade, left the unit in April.
