Josh Geballe will become senior associate provost for entrepreneurship and innovation at Yale later this month, and will serve as managing director of its OCR.

Yale University has appointed Josh Geballe, chief operating officer for the US state of Connecticut, as its senior associate provost for entrepreneurship and innovation effective February 14, 2022.
Geballe will also become managing director of the Office of Cooperative Research (OCR), replacing Jon Soderstrom who retired in June 2021 after more than 25 years in charge. OCR has generated $3.7bn in venture capital investment and 60 spinouts in the past six years alone, and has secured more than 1,600 patents worldwide since the office was set up in 1982.
He will work closely with Clare Leinweber, executive director of the student entrepreneurship hub Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking.
Geballe, a graduate of Yale, has been with the state of Connecticut since February 2020, having previously spent 17 years in the technology sector where his career stops included vice-president and general manager of the digital science division at scientific instruments supplier Thermo Fisher Scientific and 11 years with technology corporation IBM.
Geballe said: “I am extremely excited to dive back into the entrepreneurship community in Yale and New Haven. The amount of groundbreaking research happening at Yale and across the region has already established it as a globally recognised innovation hub.
“We now have an opportunity to expand and amplify this work. A fast-growing, inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem in New Haven provides Yale faculty and students a launchpad to have the greatest possible impact on the world. It also assists the university in attracting talent and capital and creating jobs and opportunity for the broader New Haven community.”
He added: “I have lived the full experience in the tech industry, from small, high-growth startups to large, multinational organisations. I have learned how much value entrepreneurship and innovation create across that spectrum. At Yale, I am eager to help faculty and students do the same — to translate their ideas, research, and discoveries into maximum impact in the world.”
