USF's senior vice-president for research and innovation Paul Sanberg will return to being a distinguished professor in neurosurgery and brain repair.
University of South Florida (USF)’s senior vice-president for research and innovation Paul Sanberg will stand down on January 18 to focus on faculty research.
USF expects to begin seeking applications for the role this spring, with Keith Anderson, assistant vice-president for research and innovation, stepping into the role on a temporary basis.
Sanberg has held the position for 12 years.
The move will enable him to resume his former title of distinguished professor at the Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair in USF’s Morsani College of Medicine.
Sanberg also holds a leadership post at USF’s Institute for Advanced Discovery and is the president of nonprofit academic inventors’ organisation National Academy of Inventors.
His biomedical research has included drug programmes targeting stroke and various neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, building on biopharmaceutical industry expertise he had gained previously.
Steven Currall, president of USF, said: “I wish to sincerely thank Dr Sanberg for his extraordinary dedication to USF research and to cultivating innovation in Florida.
“We wish him the best in the next chapter of his intellectual and professional journey.”
