Synthesia was co-founded by researchers at UCL, Stanford, Cambridge and TUM to build a platform that generates video content using artificial intelligence.

Synthesia, a UK-based artificial intelligence-equipped video generation platform, has closed a $12.5m series A round led by FirstMark Capital, according to TechCrunch.
LDV Capital, MMC Ventures, Seedcamp, TinyVC and angel investors Mark Cuban, Taavet Hinrikus, Martin Varsavsky, Christian Bach and Michael Buckley also took part in the round.
Founded in 2017, Synthesia allows clients to generate corporate training or educational videos by uploading a script and other components such as images, and selecting an actor to deliver the information. Companies can also create their own avatars.
The content creation is handled by artificial intelligence, without requiring the user to do any editing. Actors can choose to check scripts or videos before publication to avoid their likeness being used for nefarious purposes.
Synthesia was co-founded by researchers hailing from University College London, Stanford University, TU Munich and University of Cambridge. It will use the series A financing to attract more customers and to further develop its product.
LDV Capital led a $3.1m seed round for Synthesia in April 2019, with participation from MMC Ventures, Seedcamp, VAS Ventures (a vehicle for Martin Varsavsky), TinyVC, Mark Cuban, Taavet Hinrikus and Nigel Morris.
