Ben Soffer will stand down as managing director of Technion Technology Transfer after 13 years in charge.
Ben Soffer (pictured) is to depart from his role as managing director of Technion–Israel Institute of Technology’s commercialisation arm, Technion Technology Transfer (T3), Global University Venturing has learned.
Soffer has led T3 since 2005, overseeing the division’s efforts to spur innovation and convert research into successful products and businesses. He also sits on T3’s board of directors and is chief executive of biomedicine-focused accelerator Alfred Mann Institute, which is located at Technion.
T3 is part of the institute’s Technion Research and Development Foundation, where Soffer also acts on the board for startup incubator program Technion Entrepreneurial Incubator Company.
Soffer has been involved with a series of biomedicine startups including medical device developer Sanoculis and orthopaedic treatment supplier Regentis Biomaterials. He remains chairman of Israel Technology Transfer Organization, an umbrella association for the country’s tech transfer companies.
Soffer led Israel’s economic mission to the northeastern region of the US from 1999 until 2003 and worked for government-run research department Israel Innovation Authority as senior adviser to the chief scientist between 1997 and 1999. He studied economics and business administration at Bar-Ilan University, subsequently taking on law at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität, Munich and Tel Aviv University.
