Licence agreements at Satt Ouest Valorisation grew year-on-year despite the regional TTO’s patent portfolio shrinking with the disposal of 82 inventions.

Satt Ouest Valorisation, the tech transfer office for the French regions of Brittany and Pays de la Loire, has revealed signing 34 licence agreements during 2019 compared with 27 the previous year.
The TTO generated 11 spinouts over the course of the year and reported €1.7m ($1.9m) of revenue from its transfer agreements. A further $13.3m turnover came from research contracts with third parties.
Satt Ouest equipped 58 maturation-stage programs with a total of $7.6m in 2019, with almost half of that going to cheques sized above $136,000.
The TTO’s total patents fell slightly from 586 to 547 given the abandonment of 82 inventions during 2019, a figure that was almost double year-on-year.
Satt Ouest Valorisation restructured during 2019 to shape its operations around four branch offices and beef up ties to academic research institutions. The offices are located in Rennes, Nantes, Brest-Vannes-Lorient and Angers-Le-Mans.
