David Fyfe joins Oxford Photovoltaics after 10 years in charge of Cambridge Display Technology.

Oxford Photovoltaics (Oxford PV), a solar power spin-out of the University of Oxford, has appointed a new chairman.
Dr David Fyfe joins Oxford PV after ten years at the helm of Cambridge spin-out Cambridge Display Technology, which Fyfe oversaw from its early laboratory setting to a sale to Sumitomo Chemicals for $285m.
Oxford PV, which was founded in 2011, is developing transparent, inexpensive, and nontoxic solar cells which can be printed onto glass in a range of colours, offering its customers an energy producing stained-glass window. It raised $3.1m earlier in the year following investment from the University of Manchester’s UMIP Premier Fund, alongside Oxford and private investors. In total, Oxford PV has now raised $4m in venture backing.
Commenting on the appointment, Kevin Arthur, Oxford PV’s founder and chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have David on board as our Chairman. His extensive industry knowledge and considerable international experience in leading companies, such as CDT, to commercial success will be of significant benefit to Oxford PV, as we move ahead with plans to develop and license our technology.”
Fyfe added: “I am delighted to again have the opportunity to contribute to the commercial success of a world-leading, cutting edge, British technology. I look forward to working with the board of directors and with Kevin Arthur and his team to create substantial value for the shareholders and employees of Oxford Photovoltaics.”
