The number of spinouts generated by TLO rose from 25 in 2016-2017, though licensing revenues fell year-on-year.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s technology licensing office (TLO) spun out 32 companies and executed 124 licence agreements during the 2017-18 fiscal year, compared with 25 companies and 137 agreements in the previous period.
The result takes MIT’s lifetime number of spinouts and licence agreements to 471 and 2,860 respectively, with 32% of last year’s licences attributed to research conducted in life sciences, and the remaining 68% related to physical sciences.
