Purdue-founded deep learning inference architecture developer Fwdnext has been bought by computer memory product supplier Micron Technology.
Fwdnxt, a US-based deep learning technology spinout of Purdue University, has been acquired by computer processing memory chip supplier Micron Technology for an undisclosed sum, VentureBeat reported today.
Founded in 2016, Fwdnxt develops customised hardware and software applications that facilitate AI inference – the process in which algorithms identify solutions after they have been trained on examples.
The company’s products include integrated circuits that can be configured to the client’s specific application following fabrication – a computer chip known as a field-programmable gate array.
Micron already employs Fwdnxt’s technology for its deep learning computing architecture and now expects to be able to boost the performance of its memory chips in areas of AI such as data analytics, the internet of things and edge computing.
Fwdnxt does not appear to have disclosed details of prior funding, though it did receive grant money from Purdue University and the US Navy.
