Tamer Osman has been a fund manager of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust) Innovation Fund since September 2015, joining from outdoor media company QMS Media where he had been group chief financial officer and chief restructuring officer since 2012.
Kaust Innovation Fund invests in internal university projects, early-stage spinouts and spin-ins ranging from seed to series C commitments, providing up to $200,000 at the seed stage and up to $2m for later stages.
The fund focuses on sectors including cleantech – ranging from opportunities in energy and water to new materials – as well as artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. It is particularly keen on supporting the long-term socio-economic diversification plans of the Saudi Arabian government.
Osman and investment manager Francois Pichot, who joined the fund in April 2017, are based in the office of the vice-president for innovation and economic development.
