In a slow month for corporate investment, Amazon’s investment into Anthropic accounted for a quarter of the dollars raised in corporate-backed funding rounds.

Amazon’s $5bn investment in Anthropic ahead of its next fundraise was one of the highlights of an April that was saw lower levels of corporate investment than thus far in 2026. The Anthropic deal accounts for nearly a quarter of the $19bn dollars spent in corporate-backed startup funding rounds in April.
