Gerald Goodfellow, a 30-year veteran of the US Air Force, has joined Louisiana Tech as director of technology innovation and executive director of Louisiana Tech Research Institute.
Gerald Goodfellow (pictured) has been appointed executive director of Louisiana Tech Research Institute (LTRI) and director of technology innovation at Louisiana Tech University.
Goodfellow started his new role on July 1. His main objective will be to strengthen LTRI’s reputation for research, innovation and education in areas of national security.
He will also be asked to extend Louisiana Tech’s culture of cooperative collaboration, promoting ties with partners such as local nonprofit research agency Cyber Innovation Center as well as the wider innovation ecosystem.
Goodfellow joins LTRI from the nearby US Air Force global strike command in Barksdale, northwest Louisiana, where he had been director of strategic plans, programs and requirements.
His duties at the command included resourcing for an intercontinental ballistic missile program, as well as bombers and helicopters, and nuclear command, control and communications systems.
Goodfellow has also served as a director for nuclear enterprise at the US government’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency since 2016.
Goodfellow’s career with the air force started in 1990, and he has since held the rank of brigadier general. He was honoured with the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism in combat and was granted the General Ira C. Eaker award for an outstanding feat of military airmanship.
