Every day, Global University Venturing rounds up the smaller investments from across the university innovation ecosystem in its deal net.

Microbiotica, a UK-based developer of microbiome-based therapeutics and biomarkers spun out of Wellcome Sanger Institute, completed a £50m ($66.6m) series B round backed by commercialisation firm IP Group and patient capital fund Cambridge Innovation Capital (CIC) today. The round included internet group Tencent, as well as Flerie Invest, British Patient Capital and Seventure Partners. Seventure previously injected $5.2m in 2018, two years after Microbiotica was established with $10m from CIC and IP Group.

Tenyks, a UK-based spinout of University of Cambridge that offers an artificial intelligence-powered software development platform to machine learning engineers, has secured $3.4m in a seed round featuring the university, Business Weekly reported today. The round was co-led by Speedinvest and Firstminute Capital and also included LaunchHub, Y Combinator, Creators Funds, Remus Capital, CSVE Ventures, RKKVC Black Mountain Ventures and a dozen private investors.

AdipoSeeds, a Japan-based Keio University spinout that is developing therapies for intractable skin ulcers with platelet-rich plasma derived from adipose tissues, has secured ¥152m ($1.3m) from clinical testing firm HU Group Holdings’ MSF Capital Partners unit and company directors.

Tyrata, a US-based tyre monitoring software developer spun out of Duke University, has pocketed an undisclosed amount of funding from Bridgestone Americas, a subsidiary of tyre manufacturer Bridgestone. The spinout had secured $4.5m in a series A round led by tyre retail services provider Dealer Tire in 2018 before adding $2.9m from unnamed investors in 2020.
