The solar cell developer has now secured over $200m since it was founded, as roofing material company GAF joins Sunpower and Spirox in backing the company.

Solexel, a US-based solar cell and module manufacturer backed by solar installer Sunpower, has secured $31m in series D funding, Greentech Media reported on Monday.

Although Sunpower did not reinvest in the latest round, it did include funding from roofing materials producer GAF and existing investors such as semiconductor technology producer Spirox, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Technology Partners, DAG Ventures, Gentry Ventures, Northgate Capital, GSV Capital and Jasper Ridge Partners.
