Healthcare software provider Essence Group Holdings raised its overall funding to about $185m after raising $71m in a Sandbox Industries-backed round.

Essence Group Holdings, a US-based developer of cloud systems for the healthcare industry, has raised $71m in new funding, St Louis Business Journal reported on Friday.

Participants in the round included Sandbox Industries, which manages venture capital investments for health insurance provider Blue Cross Blue Shield, as well as VC firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) and Camden Partners.

Essence, which operates as Lumeris, produces software tools that can help healthcare providers and administrators run their services more efficiently.
