European Investment Bank has invested $27.2m in the database technology provider, which counts Intel Capital among its earlier backers.

MariaDB, a Finland-based open-source database technology developer backed by semiconductor producer Intel, received €25m ($27.2m) from multilateral financial services firm European Investment Bank (EIB) on Monday.

MariaDB has developed open-source database software that can be used in a hybrid, public or private cloud, and which is compatible with a range of existing software platforms including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Docker and OpenStack.
