App testing optimisation platform Apptimize, which counted Alphabet unit GV as an investor, has been acquired by Airship for an undisclosed amount.

Customer engagement company Airship has acquired Apptimize, a US-based app testing platform developer backed by internet and technology conglomerate Alphabet, for an undisclosed sum.

Apptimize has built a software platform where developers and marketing teams can A/B test mobile apps, websites and over-the-top media services. It has attracted more than 100 clients to date.

The technology is expected to complement Airship’s messaging platform and create a unified product that clients can use to increase customer engagement, loyalty and revenue.

GV, the early-stage corporate venturing subsidiary of Alphabet then known as Google Ventures, participated in Apptimize’s $2.1m seed round in 2014 alongside 27 other investors including Merus Capital and XG Ventures.

Costanoa Venture Capital led a $4m series A round for the company the following year, before it closed a $12.4m series B round led by US Venture Partners and backed by Glynn Capital Management, Goldcrest Investments, Western Technology Investments, Twin Gables and Ken Ross in 2016.
