The latest $1.8m round for the family gaming company follows a $1.2m roundalso led by Family Odyssey.

Family Odyssey has invested in gaming company Funium, leading a $1.8m round, alongside other angels.

In 2011, Funium completed a $1.2 million round of funding also led by Family Odyssey to accelerate development and expansion of a beta-version of the Facebook game.

Funium is preparing its family history Facebook game, Family Village, for a wider release. Family Odyssey is 50% owned by entrepreneur Jim Sorenson.

Sorenson was also an early investor in Ancestry.com and a co-founder of GeneTree, His father, James LeVoy Sorenson, developed the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation.

Sorenson said: “This was a very compelling investment concept. As someone who has seen rapid market growth in online family history, I am excited to see how Funium is bringing this tradition-steeped activity to a social gaming online audience. The company has gone beyond conventional applications of online gaming to transform the way gamers interact with each other in sharing their own personal family ancestry.”
