University of Maryland (UMD) has been appointed interim chief innovation officer and associate vice-president for innovation and economic development in the Division of Research.

Chang has been the founding associate vice-president for innovation and entrepreneurship for UMD’s Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the past nine years. He had previously served as venture director of the A James Clark School of Engineering’s startup programmes.

Chang is also the lead principal investigator and instructor for National Science Foundation’s I-Corps Hub programme at UMD.

Going forward, his duties will include overseeing UMD’s innovation, entrepreneurship, intellectual property and commercialisation activities, including tech transfer office UM Ventures and Discovery District.
