Matthew Mead has resurfaced at Mobeus Equity Partners as a venture partner ten months after stepping down as chief investment officer of Mercia Technologies.

Matthew Mead (pictured), former chief investment officer of investment firm Mercia Technologies, joined venture capital firm Mobeus Equity Partners as a venture partner on Monday.
Mead was the chief investment officer of Mercia Technologies from May 2015 until April 2018. He had previously held the same position at innovation charity Nesta for five years.
Earlier in his career, he was a senior manager at professional services firm Ernst & Young from 1985 to 1995 and a partner responsible for venture capital deals at VC and private equity firm 3i from 1995 to 2009.
Mercia Technologies is an investment firm focused on offering venture, growth and debt financing to SMEs, including spinouts, through managed funds and its own balance sheet. It focuses on the Midlands, the north of England and Scotland.
Mercia has signed partnerships with 19 universities across these three regions to date and operates nine offices.
Mead said: “This is an exciting time to be joining Mobeus, as the firm establishes itself as a leading UK growth equity investor in SMEs. I am really looking forward to supporting the fantastic entrepreneurs and management teams in the Mobeus portfolio to maximise their unrealised potential.”
Mobeus currently has more than £430m ($550m) under management and, following Mead’s hiring, a team of 36 people.
