Anne Di Sante is taking over permanently as executive director of MSU Technologies following the departure of her former boss Richard Chylla.

MSU Technologies, the tech transfer office of Michigan State University, has found its new executive director in Anne Di Sante, who has been promoted from associate director.

Di Sante takes over from Richard Chylla, who moved on to become executive director of University of Virginia’s technology transfer arm Licensing and Ventures Group in January this year.

She had held the job in an interim capacity since Chylla’s departure, having previously spent more than nine years as associate director. Chylla was a guest on Talking Tech Transfer in 2021 to talk about MSU Technologies.

Di Sante has been working in tech transfer for more than three decades. She was a senior technology licensing specialist at University of Michigan from 1987 to 1998 and then a senior director, technology transfer, at Wayne State University until 2010.

Di Sante subsequently joined Case Western Reserve University as a director responsible for life sciences for just over two years before joining MSU. In 2012, she received the President’s Award for her outstanding and lasting contributions to AUTM.

She said: “Faculty are more entrepreneurial and interested in how the Innovation Center can help advance their research to create impact for the public. They surprise me every day… and the quality of technologies disclosed to us has really benefited from collaborations with labs inside and outside our university.

“After 35 years in this profession, I am still presented with challenges that require creative problem solving to overcome obstacles and meet the goal of delivering public benefit with MSU technology.”
