Christian Uhrich, executive investments director, biotechnology investments at M Ventures, is one of our top 50 Emerging Leaders in corporate venturing for 2026.

Christian Uhrich stands apart thanks to his disciplined work ethic as an investor and his ability to match the pace of startup founders, say members of his team. They praise him for possessing a deep understanding of the challenges startups face, which enables him to identify, execute and manage investments with a keen eye for strategic and financial success.
Uhrich invests in life sciences and therapeutics startups and sits on the boards of six portfolio companies. His energy, transparency and ability to connect with people help him attract innovative and high-quality deal flow to M Ventures, the CVC arm of German science and biotechnology company Merck KGaA.
Uhrich says his “non-linear and unorthodox career path” has helped him transition from a background in computer science and business into biotech corporate venturing. He began his career in technology operations consulting, before moving into management and strategy consulting in the biopharma sector, working with clients across Europe and North America before joining Merck Group in 2017. He joined the CVC arm two years later.
“Starting a company is hard and making it successful is even harder. Being able to partner with individuals who are brave enough to take on that challenge is exciting and deeply motivating”
He views the entrepreneurs he works with as a highlight of his role. “It is extremely rewarding as a venture capitalist to provide founders with the capital and operational support to build their vision. Starting a company is hard and making it successful is even harder. Being able to partner with individuals who are brave enough to take on that challenge is exciting and deeply motivating.”
At the same time, Uhrich says capital allocation requires discipline and difficult trade-offs. “Biotech has been a challenging environment for fundraising over the past two years, and while there are many exceptional teams, you cannot invest in everyone. That makes selectivity essential. The founders we do back receive our full commitment – capital, time and operational support. It’s a demanding environment, but one where conviction and partnership matter most.”

The Emerging Leaders are mid-career corporate venture professionals who are making an outstanding contribution to their teams and the industry.
