Guatemala-based food producer CMI has shifted Agustín Rotondo, formerly head of its strategic investment arm CMI Ventures, to head of innovation at asset management subsidiary CMI Capital.

CMI hired Rotondo last year, following five years heading Latin American activities for telecoms firm Telefónica’s corporate venture group, Wayra. He was a GCV Emerging Leader in 2024.

Rotondo’s brief at CMI Capital will involve linking CMI’s businesses, which span restaurants, food production, energy generation, real estate and financial services, with developments in technology and the startup world, he said in a LinkedIn post announcing the move.

While CMI Ventures makes strategic investments at early stage, CMI Capital has traditionally operated as a late-stage asset manager, backing renewable energy projects, shopping centre development and green bonds while offering insurance and investment banking to customers as a service.
