Savioke, which is developing robotics technology for the service industry, is reportedly Google's eighth robotics investment in the past 12 months.

Google Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of internet company Google, has ventured further into robotics and invested in a $2m round for US-based Savioke.

Google Ventures, Morado Venture Partners, AME Cloud and a handful of individual investors came together to back the robotics startup in its seed round.

The funding is reportedly Google’s eighth investment in a robotics firm over the past year, indicating that the company has its sights set on an automated future. Previous acquisitions include Japan-based Schaft and Boston Dynamics, the company behind human and animal-inspired robots Atlas and BigDog.

The investment will be used to further develop Savioke’s first project, which will be designed for the services industry.
