Mohamed Khalil, VP of strategic investing and portfolio management at Mastercard, is one of the 100 leading corporate venturing professionals in our 2024 Powerlist.
Mohamed Khalil is vice president of strategic investing and portfolio management for payments technology company Mastercard.
He initially joined to lead the Start Path Fund, an investment vehicle dedicated to companies that have participated in the companies award- winning startup engagement platform, Start Path. His role has since expanded to oversee strategic investment execution and portfolio management across the firm’s investments.

Throughout his time at Mastercard, Khalil worked on several investments focused on partnership with global companies, including MTN Fintech, Paysend and Paypa Plane.
Additionally, he has built a portfolio management practice focused on driving performance and engagement with the portfolio of investments. This has been a strong focus for Khalil over the past 18 months.

Mastercard’s investments have been broadly across fintech and commerce, including payments, cybersecurity, data and analytics, and financial inclusion. Khalil is particularly interested in technologies that open access to financial services to more people.
Khalil has been with Mastercard since 2018 and his previous roles include director for strategic investing, mergers and acquisitions and early-stage investment lead.
Prior to joining Mastercard, he was a member of human resources software company ADP, and was part of the team building Morgan Stanley’s mass-affluent financial advisory model.
Khalil started his career as an engineer at Emerson Network Power. He has an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Albert Dorman Honors College at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
