Albert Kim, executive VP and head of Samsung Ventures America, is one of the 100 leading corporate venturing professionals in our 2024 Powerlist.
In May 2024, Albert Kim was appointed to lead Samsung Ventures America, a division of Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung’s corporate VC group, Samsung Ventures Investment Corporation (SVIC). Kim moved to the unit from Ericsson Ventures, the corporate VC arm of telecommunications company Ericsson, which he led for a decade.
SVIC is stage-agnostic, investing anywhere from early stage to pre-IPO, focusing on areas such as AI and machine learning, semiconductors, telecommunication, software, internet technology, digital health, fintech, insurtech, biotechnology, energy storage, display, climate, sustainability and more.
Its recent investments include AI technology company Anthropic, generative AI compute provider d-Matrix, humanoid robotics company Figure.ai, and data security technology provider Dig Security.
The unit’s past exits include endpoint security company SentinelOne, silicon services company Verisilicon, and display technology provider Raxium.
Before Ericsson Ventures, Kim spent 12 years at Investor Growth Capital, the VC arm of Swedish investment firm Investor AB, where he was a managing director responsible for technology investments.
In recent years, he has held board observer positions in several companies, including project management platform Sitetracker, cybersecurity company Truefort, emergency response software provider RapidDeploy, network security technology provider SAM Seamless Network, and mobile financial services provider, Juvo. He has also backed early-stage accelerator Alchemist Accelerator. “I am extremely excited to be starting this new role.
