The M Ventures team has seen a number of personnel changes recently, from a new managing director and CFO to principal and head of business operations.

Isabel Klein has joined M Ventures, the corporate VC arm of German biotechnology company Merck, as principal in the technology investment team.

She was previously principal at Rhapsody Venture Partners, an early-stage VC fund focused on hard tech.

The M Ventures team appears to have had a number of personnel changes in recent months, starting with the departure of Owen Lozman in May earlier this year. Lozman spent over seven years at M Ventures, with the last four as managing director along with Hakan Goker, and has recently launched a Copenhagen-based fund called 55 North to invest in quantum technologies.

Javier Rodriguez took over Lozman’s role in June to lead the team’s technology investments. Rodriguez, who’d been with M Ventures since 2016, previously oversaw finance and portfolio management for the unit as chief financial officer.

Caroline Soulard has taken over the CFO role from Rodriguez. Prior this role, she worked in M&A controlling and valuation at the parent company Merck for five years. Her role involved evaluating acquisition, divestment and strategic projects and she was responsible for the transaction financials through all phases.

Other internal moves include Ebru Uzun joining the team as head of business operations, taking over from Bjorn Kuhl who was promoted to principal in the biotechnology investment team. Uzun was previously entrepreneur-in-residence at M Ventures where she advised on investment opportunities and contributed to portfolio growth through in-depth market, technology and business model assessments.

The biotechnology investment team also saw Bauke Anninga (a former GCV Rising Star in 2023) and Christian Uhrich being promoted to executive investment director positions.

M Ventures was founded in 2009 to invest in biotechnology and technology sectors. The unit covers areas of healthcare drug development, life science tools, electronics and frontier technology and sustainability.
