Martin El-Khouri is leaving the German media group’s CVC arm to join a blockchain infrastructure startup.

Martin El-Khouri has left his role as head of web3 investments at German media conglomerate Bertelsmann’s corporate venture capital arm, Bertelsmann Investments.

He will become head of ecosystem and business development at Peaq, a web3 startup developing blockchain infrastructure.

El-Khouri joined Bertelsmann Investments as a director in 2021 and in July 2023 was promoted to head of The Hub, a unit of Bertelsmann Investments that focuses on web3 ventures.

Bertelsmann Investments’ portfolio covers diverse sectors including education, fintech and digital marketing, targeting growth markets such as Brazil and India, as well as Europe and the US.

To date, it has invested approximately $2.1bn in about 500 companies across its various funds, including Bertelsmann Asia Investments (BAI), Bertelsmann India Investments (BII) and Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI).
