Dawn Brooks announced she has left her role as associate principal at UK mining multinational Anglo American’s CVC arm, Decarbonisation Ventures.

She joined Anglo American in 2018 in the marketing team as a specialist in platinum group metals. She moved to Decarbonisation Ventures in 2021.

Recent investments from Anglo American in the decarbonisation sector include participation in the $21.5m series A funding round for Applied Carbon, a US startup developing technology to scale up the use of biochar, the charcoal remnants of burnt biomass which can potentially be used for carbon sequestration.

The CVC also led a $5.9m seed funding round for Marathon Fusion, a US startup making fuel processing technology for the nuclear fusion industry.

Brooks became a non-executive director in Nanomox, a UK sustainable materials startup, following a February 2023 seed funding round co-led by Anglo American. The deal size was not disclosed.

Her new role is with Wood Mackenzie, a UK consultancy firm for the energy, chemicals and mining industries. She joins as a principal analyst for copper demand.
