Fukuoka Financial Group (FFG), a Japanese regional investment banking group, has formed a ¥9bn ($62m) corporate venturing fund.

The fund is a joint venture between FFG Venture Business Partners, a CVC arm of FFG, and SBI Investment, a Japanese venture capital fund manager.

It is the second CVC fund launched by FFG, a financial group based in Kyushu, Japan’s third largest island. Its CVC unit invests in a variety of sectors including life science, fintech, deep tech, consumer and mobility. Recent investments include One Geonomics, a startup from Kyushu University which is developing a genome editing platform, and aiESG, which provides environmental, social and governance (ESG) analysis on products and supply chains.

The new CVC fund will invest in “cutting-edge technologies and business ideas”, including AI, according to a release.
