Tom Zhang, an engineering partner at corporate venturing unit GV, has taken the chief data scientist position at VC firm Sinovation.

Tom Zhang has left GV, the corporate venturing unit formerly known as Google Ventures, to join China-based venture capital firm Sinovation Ventures as chief data scientist.

Zhang joined GV, a subsidiary of internet and technology group Alphabet, in 2014 and was an engineering partner at the unit. He had previously worked for nine years at Google as a data analyst.

Founded in 2009, Sinovation Ventures oversees six dollar or renminbi-denominated funds, and generally invests between seed and series B-stage. It closed the latest, a $500m fund, last month, and its exits include Mobike, Meitu and Kamcord.
