AsusTek, Knowles Corporation and existing investors Egis Technology and Meyer Corporation all took part in the smart sensor technology startup's series B round.

US-based sensor technology developer AIStorm completed a $16m series B round yesterday featuring computing technology producer AsusTek, fingerprint sensor provider Egis Technology, microphone manufacturer Knowles Corporation and food-preparation equipment producer Meyer Corporation.

The oversubscribed round included venture capital firm Senvest Management and followed a $13.2m series A round in February 2019 backed by Egis, Meyer, image sensor technology provider TowerJazz and semiconductor manufacturer Linear Dimensions.

Founded in 2018, AIStorm provides artificial intelligence (AI)-in-sensor processors that enable sensors to make decisions and perform analysis on the data they receive without needing to run it through an analogue-to-digital converter.

The company has more than 40 investors according to its website, and will leverage its links with its corporate backers to expand into a range of sectors.

AsusTek chairman Jonney Shih said: “AIStorm’s unique, charge-switched analogue computing, coupled with its wise AI-in-Sensor approach, offers dramatic advantages for ultra-low power, ultra-low-latency AIoT edge computing. We look forward to an ongoing strategic collaboration.”
