Almi Väst's Sara Wallin has been selected to lead Chalmers Ventures and will take over from acting CEO Gunnar Fernström in December 2020.
Sara Wallin will become chief executive of Chalmers Ventures, the investment and incubator arm of Chalmers University of Technology, in December 2020.
Wallin will join the division after 11 years at the helm of Almi Väst, a regional division of Sweden-focused venture and business development financing firm Almi, having been hired there in 2009.
Gunnar Fernström, chairman of Chalmers Industriteknik, the industry advisory service of Chalmers University of Technology, was appointed as interim CEO of Chalmers Ventures in February 2020.
He replaced Linnéa Lindau who was let go as the board decided to take a new direction with Chalmers Ventures approaching the fifth anniversary of its founding in September 2015.
Wallin was hunted for the role after a strategic review concluded she was best suited to driving the next growth phase and enhancing the benefit Chalmers’s research output.
Wallin’s resume includes spells in finance, entrepreneurship, marketing and sales. She continues to hold multiple board-level positions, including roles at University of Gothenburg and government business development agency Tillväxtverket.
