Plug and Play has announced its first Africa-focused accelerator will form part of UM6P's innovation initiative in Morocco.

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has joined forces with US-based innovation platform and venture capital fund Plug and Play to launch a Morocco-based startup accelerator.
Under the agreement, Plug and Play Morocco is to be the first external accelerator allied to StartGate, UM6P’s innovation network. StartGate was set up to host a diverse range of incubators to foster entrepreneurship in UM6P’s ecosystem.
Plug and Play Morocco will act as the company’s focal point for startups in northern Africa and is its first programme on the wider African continent. The first cohort is expected to launch in January 2021 and will focus on smart city applications.
Michael Olmstead, chief revenue officer of Plug and Play, said: “Building up the Moroccan startup ecosystem is our priority. This partnership with UM6P will give startups an exciting opportunity to meet and interact with leading players in Morocco.”
