Vay Sports has been spun out of University of Zurich to commercialise a fitness app that exploits computer vision to monitor a user's posture.
Vay Sports, a Switzerland-based fitness app developer spun out of University of Zurich (UHZ), made its public debut today with the launch of its product, according to StartupTicker.
The spinout’s backers include UHZ and telecoms firm Swisscom, as well as artificial intelligence market network WelcomeAI and accelerator Swiss Startup Factory, according to Vay’s website, though further details could not be ascertained.
Vay Sports has developed a mobile app that relies on computer vision and artificial intelligence to offer users real-time feedback on their posture, ensuring optimal performance during workouts and helping to prevent injury.
The workouts have been created by experts such as former pro athlete Dave Dollé, who represented Switzerland in two World Championships in Athletics in the 1990s.
The app keeps track of a user’s progress and provides guidance on how they can improve further. The platform is initially operating in beta and will allow up to 1,000 users to test it, before a final version is scheduled to be released this September.
Vay Sports has been active since at least January 2019, when it published a blog post about a prototype of its app, but it is unclear when the company was formed.
