UBC's Lab2Launch incubator will nurture embryonic inventions mainly from the life sciences sector through the validation of their concepts.
Entrepreneurship@UBC, the commercialisation and innovation arm of University of British Columbia, has unveiled a new incubator designed to sustain pre-spinout inventions in the life sciences sector.
The program, dubbed Lab2Launch, will consist of life science-focused venture proposals from entrepreneurship@UBC’s pipeline from the past three years, as well as select opportunities from other technical disciplines.
Lab2Launch will operate over multiple phases, taking candidates through the validation of their concepts, providing guidance in areas like venture creation and putting together the right management to secure investment.
Successful participants will have the opportunity to join UBC’s Hatch Accelerator, a later-stage initiative offering businesses services to help them scale.
Lab2Launch joins two other UBC feeder incubators catered to core technology and social-oriented concepts, both of which also lead into Hatch.
Kari LaMotte, managing director of entrepreneurship@UBC, said: “entrepreneurship@UBC is continually strengthening our programs to build world-class ventures that stem from UBC and our Hatch Accelerator network.
“The Lab2Launch program demonstrates our evolution as a whole, identifying entrepreneurship@UBC as a catapult for BC talent and innovation.”
